Maya Abdominal Massage
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage are founded on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage. This massage is an external, non-invasive abdominal manipulation to guide organs into their proper position and improve the flow of nutrients to organs, and removal of toxins.
If a women’s uterus has shifted (also called a tipped or displaced uterus), or a man’s prostate is swollen, it can potentially restrict the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses, and energy (chi) through the abdomen. Ancient Maya healers felt this was the leading cause of many common female and male reproductive oriented issues, as well as digestive and urinary issues, and a host of seemingly unrelated ailments.
Abdominal massage of this type is a therapeutic treatment that has been known and practiced by healers for thousands of years but forgotten in this century. Modern medicine often focuses on relieving symptoms, rather than addressing the root cause of a dis-ease. These ancient techniques treat the primary cause of female and male complaints, thereby preventing the progression of symptoms to chronic disease and allowing the body to use its inherent ability to self-heal.
These massage techniques were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo who has lived in Central America for over 30 years where she apprenticed with Don Elijio Panti, a famous traditional Maya healer. Don Elijio Panti worked with the New York Botanical garden to identify and classify over 500 medicinal Central American plants. The result is a healing technique that produces a holistic path to physical, emotional and spiritual health.
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage address position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs. The work is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen, or tilted uterus and for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement in men, and for relief of many common urinary and digestive disorders.
Benefits for Women
Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to stretch to accommodate a growing fetus inside and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side.
A uterus in any of these positions is called tilted or displaced. Modern medicine has little or nothing to offer women with this problem. Options may include using the birth control pill, muscle relaxants, or surgery and women are generally told, "your uterus is tipped, but that is normal and don't worry about it." Yet women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques. When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy periods, pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Old adhesions/scars from invasive treatments such as surgery to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.
Benefits for Men
Men benefit greatly from Maya Abdominal Massage techniques as well. By ensuring a full blood supply to the prostate, the abdominal massage helps to prevent swelling and inflammation. Men report that they can feel a distinct difference in blood flow after a treatment. Not only does the massage relieve prostate swelling, but it helps alleviate varicose veins, premature ejaculation, some impotency problems and the need to urinate frequently.
Digestive and Emotional Benefits for Men and Women
Individuals with digestive disorders benefit greatly from Maya Abdominal Massage. Many of our common disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion, Constipation, and heartburn are treated with antacids, muscle relaxants, and a variety of other medications. These treatments address symptoms, not the causes.
By using the techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage, the upper abdomen is also given a deep, thorough massage to loosen the tight muscles around the stomach and the arteries that feed the digestive and eliminative organs with their vital blood supply. The diaphragm is gently massaged allowing relaxation of tight musculature. This massage, in conjunction with herbs and nutritional counseling, offer excellent results for digestive issues.
“Our issues are in our tissues” is so true. Dr. Wilhelm Reich found that in order to truly heal from emotional trauma one must have a physical release of that emotion. Maya Abdominal Massage can help to release these issues so that one can heal.
Urinary Benefits
If a women’s uterus is leaning on the bladder, or if a man’s prostate is swollen and impacting the bladder, a person may experience a lot of urinary issues as well. For women, this frequently results in incontinence, leaking, bladder infections, and ‘always having to go’. For men, it can diminish the urine stream, make it difficult to initiate the flow of urine, the need to get up frequently during the night to pee, and also ‘always having to go’.
